What does the Word of God tell us this Sunday? Fifth Sunday of Easter, May 7th 2023

P. Claudio

At the beginning of the fifth week of Easter, today's liturgy offers us this page of the Gospel, which corresponds to Jesu s' parting words in the context of the Last Supper. The physical separation from the Master does not mean that the disciples are left alone and helpless. He tells them not to be afraid, to trust Him. His return to the Father is to show that He is the path that leads us to God. Believing in Christ and trusting in his teachings, imitating his example, will keep you united to continue his work on behalf of all humanity. We, even if we fall and stumble, let's get up and keep on that walk. Our task is to make sure that we do not stray from that path (Jn 14:4) in order to reach full communion with God and God with us. Christ is in the Father and the Father in Him, and they make their home in us. We must move towards that definitive communion.
