Advent (from the Latin adventus, coming or arrival) is the time of preparation for Christmas and Epiphany in which we celebrate the mystery of the Incarnation of the Son of God in our human history. With Advent we inaugurate a new liturgical year. When everyone is talking about the last weeks of the year, we are talking about the first ones (There are four Sundays before December 25).

Starting on November 30, three biblical characters give us the guideline to prepare ourselves spiritually to live the sacredness of this wonderful Mystery: The Birth of Our Lord Jesus Christ. They are: The Prophet Isaiah, John the Baptist and Mary of Nazareth.

The liturgy of Advent has an eschatological tinge in its first part, until December 16, as it focuses on the glorious coming of Christ at the end of time. And from the 17th, we focus on his first coming and his Birth in Bethlehem, the news that God wanted to be:

"Emmanuel" (God with us) fills us with hope, joy, and gladness.
