Alleluia! CHRIST IS RISEN!

The Easter Vigil begins on the evening of Holy Saturday and is "the Mother of all vigils." Easter Sunday, therefore, is the greatest of all Sundays, and the Easter Season is the most important of the liturgical seasons.

Easter is the celebration of the Lord's resurrection from the dead, and culminates in the Ascension to the Father and the sending of the Holy Spirit upon the Church. There are 50 days of Easter from the first Sunday to Pentecost.

It is characterized, above all, by the joy of the glorified life and the victory over death, expressed most fully in the resounding acclamation of the Christian: Alleluia!

All faith flows from the resurrection: "If Christ is not risen, our preaching is vain; vain, it is also our faith." (1 Cor 15:14).

The word Passover comes from the Lord's passing, the Jewish Passover that commemorates the night before the liberating passage of the Jews through the Red Sea, from slavery to freedom, from death to life, from darkness to light.
