REFLECTION OF THE WORD OF GOD, Sunday August 23, 2026

Jesus begins by asking what people say about Him. The answers are varied, opinions respectable and complimentary... But none of them hit the nail on the head. None of them reaches the core of their identity, because they are answers given by those who speak from afar and hearsay.

Then comes the decisive question: "And you, who do you say that I am?" The difference is great. It is no longer about what others say. Now the answer is personal... for faith cannot be sustained solely on inherited traditions or family customs or general ideas. You cannot tell who the Lord is from others.

Every disciple and every baptized person is called to encounter Christ personally and to confront himself with this question. Surrounded by opinions about Jesus. For some he is a great moral teacher. For others he is a great historical figure. Still others reduce it to a spiritual symbol. But the question remains: Who is Jesus to you? What place does it occupy in your life?
