Why do we put intentions at the Mass?

Fr. Tarcisio

In our community of San Mateo, at the beginning of the mass, we read the intentions to pray for many personal and family needs. We pray for the sick, families, those who have birthdays, anniversaries or want to give thanks; and also for the deceased and other needs of the community. We do this because our community gathers to celebrate the Eucharist and it is where we pray for one another, as a family.

Most people want the name of the person or situation for which they are praying to be read aloud, but let us remember that the intention is also presented by each person who attends the Holy Mass with faith and devotion, with the assurance that God always listens to us, like a Father who helps his children.

If it is a special intention, or the family requires a particular mass, it is necessary to call the office in advance and agree with the priests to celebrate the mass for the required intention. We do not ask for donations in exchange for intentions, but it is recommended that those who send their intention for the mass contribute whatever they wish to help the community.

Let us continue praying for one another!
