Ascensión de Jesús

The Solemnity of the Ascension refers to the return of the risen Jesus to the Father. This event marks the end of his mission physically among us. Forty days after the resurrection we celebrate the exaltation of Jesus to the glory of God.

In the creed we make this profession of faith: “Christ ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of God the Father Almighty, from there he will come to judge the living and the dead…” From that moment on, moved by the Holy Spirit, his disciples began the mission of proclaiming his gospel, good news, throughout the world.

The ascension reminds us that our ultimate goal is not in this world, but in heaven, where we will behold God in all his glory. This final goal should not be like a distraction from focusing on the things of this world, but, on the contrary, by doing things well in every moment of our earthly life, we will deserve, like them, to be in a privileged place in the presence of God.
