This phrase, central to the Christian Creed, does not describe a physical place or a bodily posture, but expresses theological truths about the authority and nature of Our Lord Jesus Christ after His resurrection.
He ascended to heaven: It symbolizes Jesus' transfer from the earthly dimension to the divine. It is not a journey to a distant point in space, but the definitive entrance of his humanity into the glory of God. With this, it is understood that Jesus is no longer limited by our earthly categories of time and space where we now pilgrimage. He is seated: Theologically, it indicates that Christ has taken possession of his Kingdom and that his work of redemption is finished; it is a position of judge and king that has already triumphed. At the right hand of God: In biblical culture, being at the right is the place of ultimate honor, power, and trust alongside a ruler. Jesus is claimed to share the throne of God, the Father Almighty, sharing also in his divine authority and omnipotence. From that position of privilege, he acts as a mediator and constantly intercedes on our behalf. That is, Jesus of Nazareth is the Son of God and now reigns with absolute authority over all creation.
