There are two ways to receive communion. We can receive Communion in the mouth or in the hands. Generally, if the communion is with both species (bread and wine) it is recommended to receive it in the mouth, and if it is only the bread it can be in the hand.

The Mouth: This is the traditional and preferred way, we must open the mouth wide enough so that the priest or minister can place the Host on the tongue.

The hands: If we receive it in the hands, we must put the open palm of one hand on the other. After receiving the Host, we immediately put the Host in our mouth. We do not have to carry it in our hands to our place, nor do we have to share a little piece, especially with children who have not yet received their First Communion and do not understand the meaning of the Eucharist. But the most important thing is to receive Communion with a well-disposed heart, with faith, with a clear conscience or repentance of sins.

When we return to our seat after receiving Holy Communion, we should kneel (or sit down) and pray a Thanksgiving, thanking the Lord for this great gift of His Body and Blood.
