Our community of St. Matthew identifies itself as an Ecumenical community of Faith, that is, a church open to dialogue, acceptance and collaboration with other Christian churches. That is why, for us, this week of Prayer for Christian Unity has great importance.
From January 18th to 25th, the Christian churches, including the Catholic Church, make an effort to pray for unity. The theme for reflection this year is based on a text from St. Paul’s letter to the Ephesians that says: “One is the body and one is the Spirit, as one is the hope to which you have been called” (Eph 4:4).
Let’s understand that it’s not about praying for others to convert to our church, that’s called proselytizing. Rather, it is a matter of creating awareness, united by prayer, that we believe in the same God, that Christ is our Lord and Savior, who gave his life for the salvation of all. That we are brothers in Christ and should respect and love each other as members of the same family of children of God, called Christians.
