The book of Sirach makes a very interesting reflection on the use of human freedom. Because in any circumstance we have the possibility of choosing between good and bad, what benefits or harms, etc. We can choose, but the choice we make will bring consequences, for better or for worse. In short, it invites us to make good use of our freedom and to decide wisely.
For its part, the Gospel presents us with a rereading of the commandments. “You have heard that it was said... but I tell you…” The Christian cannot limit himself to fulfilling the minimum to do good, to comply with some religious practices. It is like saying that we are good because we do not break any commandments, “we do no harm to anyone”, but what good action is that if at the same time we miss opportunities to do more. It is not about being passive believers, strict adherents of the rules, who do not get into trouble; but to be proactive, to help, to defend, to denounce injustices... To speak the truth and walk with life without committing injustices, with a clean heart and a clear conscience.
