Who are the blessed ones?

Today’s message, the Beatitudes, is one of the most provocative pages of the Gospel of Jesus Christ. The rich, the proud, the powerful feel self-satisfied: they have what they want, they feel happy. But they are closed in on themselves and everything they have. And that apparent happiness will turn into sadness and pain.

Jesus, on the other hand, comes to announce good news for those who, in the eyes of the world, are unhappy. He declares the poor and the suffering to be blessed, not because they possess little or nothing, or because they are persecuted, but because the poor and humble, the kind and those who mourn, trust confidently in God and in their brothers and sisters. And God is not going to let them down.

It is worth asking ourselves if we are humble, we cry for something... We are merciful, we hunger and thirst for justice. In short, why should we consider ourselves blessed and happy?
