REFLECTION OF THE WORD OF GOD, XVI Sunday in Ordinary Time

GOOD AND EVIL

In the gospel, we read the second parable of the Kingdom of God, which speaks of a field in which good grain has been sown, but also weeds. The field is the world, the good seed has been sown by Jesus and the weeds by his enemies. This is telling the disciples that there will be good and evil during the establishment of the Kingdom of heaven, but in the end only the good will remain.

Weeds are a plant much like wheat as it develops, and it is difficult to distinguish them while it does not have the ear; but once it ripens, the differences are remarkable and then only the good grain can be chosen. In the same way, in the world the good and the bad coexist, we must be patient, because the time will come to choose one and throw away another.

We would all like to see a world without evil, but it is not like that. Today Jesus asks us for patience. God will put each one in his place in due time. God himself is patient with us and gives us time to bear fruit, let us let his good seed germinate in our lives and not allow evil to take root in our hearts, because then we will be only weeds and not good wheat.
