Today’s three readings bring us in line with the beginning of the Week of Prayer for Christian Unity. (January 18-25). Isaiah, referring to the servant of God, exclaims: “It is too little, the LORD says, for you to be my servant, to raise up the tribes of Jacob, and restore the survivors of Israel; I will make you a light to the nations, that my salvation may reach to the ends of the earth.. “ By opening faith in the God of Israel to all nations.

Saint Paul, in the greeting of the First Letter to the Corinthians, addresses a specific community, that of Corinth, but he also addresses “all those everywhere who call upon the name of our Lord Jesus Christ, their Lord and ours....” to remind us of the openness of our Christian faith. A faith that encompasses different nations, races, languages, cultures, traditions. What do we have in common, in the midst of so much diversity? Faith in Jesus Christ, the Son of God.

A Christian, a follower and disciple of Christ, is someone who tries to be a good witness of Christ himself, in word and deed. That is why we need to learn better who Jesus is and what he means to us and to people, so that we can be closer and more intimate to him and draw people to him.
