We can affirm that the human being because he was created in the image and likeness of God, if he does not develop his nature but opens his communication with Him. To that we call prayer; set of words, oral, mental or written, with meaning communicative. All religions have their prayer catalogs.
In the Catholic Church, our compendium is the Sacred Scripture (The Bible) that compiles ancient texts throughout salvation history: Old and New Testaments, to the early years of the Church's history.
The Liturgy presents us today with a selection of texts that refer to prayer: Abraham's prayer in Genesis, Psalm 137, and the Lord's Prayer in the Gospel of St. Luke.
Today we can also remember Jesus' indication on how to pray: "When you pray, Do not do as the hypocrites do, who like to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners to show off to people. Truly I tell you, they have already received their paycheck. When you go to pray, go into your room, close the door, and pray to your Father in secret. And you Father, who sees in secret, will repay you. When you pray, do not be talkers like the pagans, who think that by dint of words they will be heard. Do not imitate them, for your Father knows what you need before you ask for it." (Mt 6:5-8).
