Catechesis, in the Catholic Church, is the process of education in the faith that methodically, organically and systematically teaches Christian doctrine to initiate children, adolescents, young people and adults in the life and practice of the Gospel principles and values. That is: what we believe, what we practice and what we celebrate.
It is "echoing" or "making resound" the teachings of Christ, transmitting the Word of God and helping students to have a personal encounter with Jesus, living the gospel in community.
It is based on the "Deposit of Faith" (Sacred Scripture and Tradition) contained in the Catechism of the Church with the purpose of provoking conversion and leading the student to a personal encounter with Christ, through the truths expressed in the creed, commandments and sacraments. That is, what we are to believe, pray, practice, and celebrate as members of the Church, as children of God and disciples of Christ.
Catechesis is nourished by the so-called "Deposit of Faith" (Sacred Scripture and Tradition) which is basically summarized in the Catechism of the Catholic Church.
