Reflection of the Word of God

They have eyes, but they don't see ...

This Sunday's word of God leads us to reflect on the situation of those who live in darkness and those who live in the light. The one who can see and the one who does not want to see. The story of the man born blind seems like a tragedy foretold, a disability that is an apparent consequence of sin. But Jesus changes the perspective, because it is not just a matter of understanding disability as a punishment, but as an opportunity to show that God's will is not anyone's suffering, but to show his glory.

Then he makes a startling statement: "I am the light of the world"... And he who was blind and was healed, thanks to Jesus, will try to open the eyes of the faith of those who cannot see Him as the one sent by God. Thus, Jesus is concerned about both physical blindness and mental and spiritual blindness, which is unable to see God's work in people's lives. They have eyes, but they don't see... We are Christians, people of faith. Too often, however, we are blind to God, to our brethren, and to the things we should see about ourselves.

Let us ask the Lord in this Eucharist to touch and open our eyes to the deepest and most beautiful realities of our faith.
