REFLECTION OF THE WORD OF GOD. XII Sunday in Ordinary Time.

P. Tarcisio

Why are they afraid? Why is your faith so weak?

When things don't go well for us in life, when we go through moments of suffering, we almost always begin to ask ourselves: “Where are you, Lord, when we suffer?” “Why don't you help me?” And if we do not receive the immediate response, as we would like it to be, then we complain, and we even come to doubt our faith.

Today's readings allow us to reflect on the topic of suffering. The book of Job is terribly hard and shows us how far human suffering can go, but it also moves us to always maintain hope.

Jesus' response to his disciples, frightened by the storm, also answers our doubts. The Lord asks just another question, followed by an encouraging answer: “Why are you so afraid?” “I am with you. Believe in me, trust me.” In this Eucharist we express our confidence that with the Lord we can overcome all trials and all evil.
