REFLECTION OF THE WORD, XXIX, Sunday in Ordinary Time

In the Gospel passage that we have heard today, Jesus is asked if it is lawful to pay the tax to the Emperor. The intention was to set a trap for him... If he responds yes, it will lose popularity among its followers; if it answers no, it may be accused before the Roman authority. But Jesus does not accept being trapped in that logic and changes the level of the discussion by bringing his interlocutors to the true subject or center of the matter.

We too live surrounded by questions that force us to take sides: Ideologies, polarizations, confrontations or interests. Frequently believing that it is all about choosing a side... But, Christ reminds us that there is a freedom much deeper to distinguish the important from the accessory, the transient from the definitive. We must put God at the Center and everything else is relative
