The meaning of liturgical colors

The main liturgical colors of the Catholic Church are green, white, and purple, which are used in the priest's vestments to mark the different times and feasts of the year.

Each color has a special meaning and is used at specific times:

Green means: Hope, new life, and spiritual growth. It is used during Ordinary Time (the days of the year that are not of great feast or preparation).

White (Golden/Silver) Means: Purity, joy, light, and the glory of God. He dresses in The Christmas Season and the Easter Season, in addition to the feasts of Jesus, the Virgin Mary, the angels and the saints who were not martyrs.

Purple (or Violet) means: Penance, waiting, conversion, and sorrow for sins. It is used in the seasons of Advent and Lent, and also in Masses for the dead.

Red means: Fire of the Holy Spirit, divine love and the blood of the martyrs. Its use is reserved for Palm Sunday, Good Friday, Pentecost and the feasts of the apostles or martyrs.

Rose means: Joy in the midst of a time of penance. It can be used optionally only twice a year: on the third Sunday of Advent (Gaudete) and the fourth Sunday of Lent (Laetare).

Black means: Mourning and pain for death. Its use is optional in masses for the dead (nowadays purple is preferred).
