THE BODY AND BLOOD OF CHRIST

In the book of Deuteronomy, we read part of a discourse by Moses, where he is preparing the people to enter the promised land, inviting them mainly not to forget the hardships they went through along the way: "Remember your journey through the desert... The Lord humbled you, starved you, and then fed you with manna. When you enter the land, cultivate the land and live in beautiful houses, do not forget that it was the Lord who fed you."

The Gospel offers us a part of the discourse of the "Bread of Life": "I am the living bread that came down from heaven, if anyone eats of this bread he will live forever." Those who heard these words could not understand the deep meaning they expressed, for they took them literally: "How can this man give us his own flesh to eat?" Christ has brought us life through His sacrifice for us. By partaking of his table to share the bread and the word, we will have enough strength for the journey.
