Jesus crucified is for many the sign of a defeated king, but in God’s eyes this tragic event is the sign of God’s victory over evil and death.

Although Jesus had to endure ridicule, mistreatment, and suffering... all of that became the most tangible proof of God’s love for us human beings.

St. Paul describes the kingship of Christ, placing it above what we understand by kingship. “Christ is image of the invisible God, the firstborn of all creation. For in him were created all things in heaven and on earth, the visible and the invisible, whether thrones or dominions or principalities or powers; all things were created through him and for him.”

In the presence of the crucified king, what position are we going to take? That of those who mock him and tell him that his gospel is not possible? Or perhaps we will be like those who abandoned him in the midst of pain? Or will we be like the good thief who asked him to open the gates of heaven for him?
