If God is the owner and source of life, it is not possible for him to abandon us in death at that decisive moment of our existence. St. Paul reminds us: "No one lives for himself and no one dies for himself; if we die, we die to the Lord; so whether we live or die, we are the Lord's."
We Christians confess that the incarnation of the Son of God is the presence of divine love manifested in Christ definitively; this incarnation continues, in some way, in every one regenerated by the sacrament of Baptism. In baptism, symbolically buried in water, we rise again with new life, and our whole existence becomes baptismal: leaving the works of death to rise again as new creatures for eternal life. We are on a pilgrimage following Jesus Christ who went through the world doing good, giving his life for love of others and overcoming death invites us to follow him and to take possession of the Kingdom of his Father," because I was hungry and you gave me food, I was thirsty and you gave me drink, I was a stranger and you welcomed me, I was naked and you clothed me, sick and you visited me, in prison and you came to see me."
Today we celebrate the journey that our deceased relatives traveled, trying to follow that conduct and our trust in God, who in Christ shows us infinite mercy and just judge.
