This sacrament is better known as the sacrament of Confession, because it is about the Christian making an examination of conscience, that is, reviewing ourselves, humbly acknowledging our sins, our errors and confessing them to the priest, showing sincere repentance, in order to receive absolution or forgiveness. With this Sacrament we receive the opportunity to change, to convert, to start again.
Although our sins have been washed away by baptism, we are still imperfect human beings, we continue to make mistakes, and we need to live in continuous conversion. That is why the sacrament of reconciliation motivates us to continue working in ourselves, to be better people, better children of God. So as not to break friendship with God or with our brothers and sisters because of sin.
But this sacrament is not only an instrument or resource that allows us to continue sinning. That is, one can say: "I am going to sin. Anyway, I'll confess later!" Nor is it a matter of continuing to commit and confessing the same sins as always. For the person is expected to strive to change, to overcome his defects.
