The Catechist is a person who teaches the doctrine of Jesus and shares his experience of Christian faith with other brothers and sisters who are in the process of formation. The catechist prepares young children or adults so that they can receive the sacraments of Christian initiation, that is: “Baptism”, “Confession”, “Communion” and Confirmation”.
Catechists are members of a community and have the mission of teaching and transmitting faith. But they do not do this alone because the first catechists are the fathers and mothers of families. It is also the responsibility of the parish or Christian community to which they belong and, of course, it is the responsibility of each person who wants to know and live according to the teaching of the Gospel of Jesus.
“...everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved. But how will they call on him in whom they have not believed? How will they believe in him whom they have not
heard? How will they hear without being preached? And how will they preach if they are not sent? As Scripture says: How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!(Rom 10:13-15)
