Next Friday we are going to celebrate the Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe. Our community rejoices with the Holy Mass, the representation of the apparitions of the Virgin, the singing of the Guadalupan mañanitas and the traditional dances: Aztec Dance and Chinelos Dance... It is a great feast that we celebrate with devotion and gratitude.

But why so much celebrating? We celebrate what this event meant for the peoples of our continent. At a difficult moment in history, when our native peoples were suffering the ravages of the conquest, the Virgin of Guadalupe appears as a visible sign of the presence of God, who accompanies us in our struggles, who renews hope and faith.

Today our peoples continue to suffer from the political, economic, social situation... That is why the words of Our Lady bring us comfort and hope. “Do not be frightened or grieved. Let not your heart be disturbed… Am I not here, who is your Mother?” Let us put our plans, our fears and hopes in God’s hands... let us be good children of his.
