The Silence necessary to Pray

If we ask what prayer is, the first answer is: “to pray is to talk to God” or “to pray is to love God.” And to talk to God we use words, the human language that we normally use to communicate.

However, we also pray from the silence of our thoughts, without words. We can say that it is necessary to have an inner silence, seeking the calm of our emotions, of our thoughts, of our whole person, to connect with our God.

But in addition to that inner silence, an outer silence is also necessary, because to listen we must pay attention and avoid external distractions. So, when we pray, it is also important to create an appropriate environment that helps us focus on what we do and also to listen to what the Holy Spirit wants to tell us.
