On this third Sunday in Ordinary Time we begin to read the Gospel of St. Matthew, who emphasizes to us that what the prophets announced is fulfilled in and with Jesus. In Galilee he began his ministry by preaching the Gospel of the Kingdom and the call to conversion, materialized in the vocation of the first disciples.

This Sunday also coincides with January 25 (Conversion of St. Paul), we culminate the Octave of prayer for Christian Unity. Christians of all confessions are invited to seek unity and communion by remembering Ephesians 4:4: "One is the body and one is the spirit, as one is the hope to which we have been called." The Word of God that we must live in the Church, beyond just listening to it or studying it, so that it may shape us and make credible the witness that we must give as disciples of the Lord Jesus.
