In the Catholic Mass, the altar is a central and symbolic element. It represents Christ, the table of sacrifice and the place where the Eucharist, the Lord's Supper, is celebrated.
It is the center of thanksgiving and where the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross is made present. The altar is considered a representation of Christ, the cornerstone of the Church.
It is the place where the faithful participate in the Eucharist, the Body and Blood of Christ, as brothers and sisters around the table of the children of God.
The entire temple is built around the altar, making it the focal point of the celebration. It is a constant reminder of Christ's presence and his love for humanity. It makes present Christ's redemptive sacrifice on the cross.
