The Eucharistic Consecration is that central moment in the celebration of Mass, in which the Priest extends his hands over the offerings of wine and bread, invoking the Holy Spirit upon them.
With this invocation those simple offerings of wine and bread become the Body and Blood of Christ, the food that we then receive during communion. This part of the Mass is so solemn and important that we all kneel down to witness this wonderful transformation that means, God with us.
At that moment, we focus all our attention on the Altar, because something wonderful is happening. Recalling Jesus’s last supper with his disciples and obeying his command:
“Take and drink, this is my Body.... This is my Blood... Do this in remembrance of me...”
